Novelette -Powerless
In this project, our challenge was to write an apocalyptic novel with a group of four people. Our apocalyptic event was a solar flash that turned off all electricity as the world shot into the Dark Age. In the writing aspect, we were supposed to each take turns writing chapter. Mrs. Harris challenged us to create characters that were nothing like ourselves that would challenge us as writers. My character was a 60 year old African American man who emigrated from Ethiopia to the United States with his family when he was 11 years old. Joseph Wilson Feather was a man who didn’t care about people and just wanted to be left alone to rot; because of this, he became addicted to drugs. Joseph at one time could have up to 6 different drugs in his body. In the novel he presented a challenge fitting into the groups, but had a personality shift. I feel like this project showed creativity. We had to think outside the box to create our event and make it sound as realistic as possible, while putting ourselves into our characters. This project showed our inner selves and how we would act in the events through creating this world through our characters.
