Westcott House Video Endeavor

In the Westcott House Video endeavor, we worked with shapes and angles that were designed in the house. Specifically, how do they relate to each other, their surroundings, area, and how they are important to the overall feeling of the house. I was required to have a 1-1:30 minute video from iMovie that demonstrated how the house and geometry, transformations (at least three) and showed the house as a whole and helped to understand shapes and geometry. As well, in this we had to create an artist statement that described how the piece and the Westcott house related and represented each other. In that we had to make drafts. Draft one was supposed to go to your partner, but because I was a solo group I edited my own piece, then it went to teacher critique after all the revisions we made I revised from myself one last time and submitted it.

In this project, I demonstrated creativity by trying to make my piece outside the box, this allows for the ability to give freedom to choose the decisions in your piece and make it in such a way that I unique to you in a unique way. This also allowed for freedom of mind and choice of how a piece is going. I think the definition of creativity is to do or make something to the best of your ability, and to be able to think outside the box where it allows you to have freedom and artistic choice in your work. I used creativity in this project through taking using the house as my inspiration and guide for the video. My video was based off square since I thought they were one of the most important elements repeated throughout the house. When taking pictures to use for the video I tried to get pictures from obscure angle and places in the house that other groups would not think of. This relates to creativity as it thinking outside of the box, literally and figuratively, to come up with an ending video that had different elements from others in a way that expressed the little paid attention to parts of the house.

What really challenged me was the fact that I was in a solo group *the project was a partner project, but my partner left the school*. Even though this meant I didn’t not have to compromise and talk through decisions with anyone before I started, it left me with twice the work of what other people had to get done in the same time. As well, I was absent a couple of the days meaning NO work got done that day because I was gone and no group member to continue it for me.I couldn’t really overcome the issue of being a solo group… But in light of only having myself to bounce ideas off of I enlist and neighboring group for critique help. This allowed me to get some feedback and be able to see what others saw and if they were confused or not liking how the project was going. Having this unsaid person to look at my work really helped, it allowed me to see flaws and other people’s perceptions of the piece. The implications of learning this software and how to effectively use it allows me to be able to use iMovie in the future and be able to wither in school, work, or everyday life, to the best quality it can be. As well, have a basic understanding of shapes and how they interact with the world around them.
